As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.
After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Princeton Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

For the spring refresh, my team identifies weak spots throughout the property. This includes areas where grass struggles to establish.
We review historical data from previous years to see if each issue is ongoing or newly emerging. This helps us better understand what needs attention and how to plan for it.
A recent seasonal project included placing rock in front of the building, along the sidewalk, and around the flagpole. This update helped create a cleaner, more polished appearance in high-visibility areas of the property.
Effective checklists are rarely one-size-fits-all. When changing grounds maintenance providers, the full impact may not be clear right away. This is especially true when moving from a more conservative approach to a more proactive one.
Once the growing season begins, the team can better assess what needs attention.
A comprehensive assessment should include all identified concerns. This may include drainage issues, foundation cracks, exterior deterioration, and missing shingles. We should schedule necessary repairs before the summer heat creates additional challenges.
Next season, I plan to enhance the sidewalks with decorative rock borders. This will create a more polished, defined look. I will also consider adding shrubs along the front entryway to create a fuller and more inviting landscape.
It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Princeton Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
