My Words to Live By

Category: Senior Living

Author: Stacey Russel, Executive Director

Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word to guide my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at The Princeton Senior Living in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, the start of a new year feels like an opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for what lies ahead. This word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how deeply my Word of the Year influenced my journey.

2024: A Year of Accountability

My Word of the Year for 2024 was accountability. This focus arose from stepping into a new leadership role, where I needed to take responsibility for learning my position while ensuring others upheld their commitments. Accountability guided my decisions, strengthened relationships, and fostered personal growth throughout the year.

This word inspired our team to embrace ownership and strengthen collaboration. By fostering a culture of accountability, we created an environment where everyone understood their responsibilities and felt empowered to meet expectations. The impact of this focus extended beyond individual growth, contributing to the overall success of our community.

Lessons Learned and Moving Forward

The lessons of accountability have provided a solid foundation for our team. While we have embraced responsibility, I believe the next step is fostering greater collaboration and mutual support. This shift will allow us to work more closely together and achieve shared goals more effectively.

2025: A Year of Collaboration

Looking ahead, my Word of the Year for 2025 is collaborative. This word reflects my commitment to nurturing teamwork and helping others succeed. By focusing on collaboration, I aim to strengthen connections within our team and build a culture where support and shared success thrive.

Collaboration will guide me in creating spaces for open dialogue and encouraging team members to share ideas and resources. It will also inspire stronger relationships and a greater sense of unity within our community. I am excited to see how this focus will enhance our progress and create meaningful experiences for everyone.

Setting Intentions for the New Year

Choosing a Word of the Year is not about having all the answers. Instead, it is about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires. As I step into 2025, I look forward to seeing how collaboration will shape my leadership, relationships, and personal growth.
